Top 10 KLM Facebook posts in 2016

Less than two months ago, I joined KLM as a social media consultant. “Not exactly a walk in the park!” But how about getting me to sift through 2016 to identify your favourite posts! I came up with these for the Top 10! The number of likes trawled by these posts is staggering! I hope (for me) that you hang on to your enthusiasm throughout 2017… ;-)

10. KLM flying in formation with F16s

We kick-off our Top 10 with a video about the KLM Airbus 330, flying in formation with two F16s and several other military aircraft. An amazing show of “synchronous flight”. Unfortunately, it’s not an Olympic discipline.

9. Engine failure… can an airplane still fly?

Curious to know exactly what a pilot has to do in the case of engine failure? Or just seeking reassurance that the plane can still fly if this happens? Well, it can! This video explains how from within a simulator.

8. There’s something exciting going on here!

“Look what the Dutch got going up on board this thing!” Shock and wonderment from these gentlemen in this video about a fizzy product on board. This video garnered more than 35,000 likes. It’s clear you were pleased with the introduction of this product on board!

7. The arrival of our 2^nd medal flight at Schiphol

It’s always great to see professional athletes winning medals! Especially when they return “home”! This photographic report about the welcoming celebrations on Dutch soil rocketed to 7^th place.

6. For those who can’t get enough! #Oranje boven

Wow! The medals en route to the Netherlands! An amazing image from the sky. You thought so too; number 6 on our list.

5. That was a flight we’ll never forget – orange pride

Being escorted by an F16; that’s something I haven’t experienced very often. Let’s see, 4 or 5 … Oh no, never. However, our Olympic heroes did. As well as a special guest on the ground! Yes, that’s good for inclusion in the Top 5.

4. Our favourite destination is…

“We can take you anywhere you like. But our favourite destination is… You!!” A video about KLM and what KLM stands for was received with great enthusiasm. Clocking 80,000 likes, it’s certainly worthy of 4^th place in the list!

3. Sint Maarten landing in slow motion

Everything looks awesome in slow motion! Everything! Doesn’t matter what you film. If you play it at half speed, you automatically add oodles of drama and tension! But, let’s be fair, a KLM Boeing landing on Sint Maarten doesn’t really need any extra excitement. The aircraft skims so closely above the beach that towels and umbrellas take to the air. But play it in slow motion, and the video storms “slowmo” into the Top 3!

2. Revealing our #OrangePride

Unveiling the new “livery” of the Boeing 777-300 could be followed live! When Hangar 14 opened its doors and the Orange Pride rolled out into the world, the counter leapt to 121,000 likes! Super cool!

1. Look up, there’s magic in the air

But the (New Year) cracker only came at the end of the year. You have to spend Christmas with the ones you love. Aircraft bring people together. But what if you find yourself alone at an airport? You can connect people there too! Close to 100 million people (!) watched the “bonding buffet” video and the post was rewarded with close to 2,000,000 likes! Merry Christmas!
